Mark Sullivan: End This Strike
Our neighbors want to know when our strike will end. The answer is simple: When Catholic Health, the company that runs Mercy Hospital, agrees to honor its commitment to patient safety.
Without enough nurses in the Medical Surgical unit, we can’t do our jobs of caring for patients. In 2016 hospital managers determined that there should be one nurse for every four patients in the unit - a 1:4 safety ratio. Now management wants to backslide to a 1:5 safety ratio (more patients for each nurse). Any nurse will tell you that this can be the difference between life and death.
As soon as management agrees to a solution to this issue, we will go back to work - caring for patients, saving lives. Please help us out by sending an email to Catholic Health CEO Mark Sullivan urging him to settle a fair contract and end the strike now.
